2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Good deep medium ruby. Wonderfully perfumed, fresh aromas of blackberry, raspberry, licorice, spices and violet pastille. Brilliantly pure and energetic, with outstanding flavor intensity and inner-mouth perfume. Still an infant today, with primary black fruits dominating. But this has the spicy, floral perfume of the greatest vintages of this wine. The ripely tannic, palate-saturating finish…

The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Lafite-Rothschild was impressive from barrel. It is very composed on the nose with brambly red fruit, loam, touches of sous-bois (decayed autumn leaves). After five minutes, there is a noticeable liquorice scent. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, a little soft in the middle with a fleshy tarry, liquorice-infused finish that just…

2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Good full ruby-purple; this really stains the glass. Highly expressive aromas of blackberry, crushed strawberry, flint, cedar, pepper and herbs. Rich and bright in the mouth, with pungent minerality and a cedary note keeping the dark and red fruit flavors fresh. The long finish features lovely floral lift and substantial but ripe tannins. This strikes…

Chablis: 2014 & 2013 (Aug 2015)

Bright, pale yellow. Nose currently a bit blocked by sulfur. Quite closed on the palate, with stone fruit and menthol flavors showing less depth and early sweetness than the Montée de Tonnerre. A bit less fine-grained too. This is tricky to taste now and needs time in bottle to expand.

2013 Chablis: Living on the Edge (Aug 2014)

Rich and explosive in the glass, the 2013 Chablis Blanchot races across the palate with gorgeous richness and pure intensity. White and yellow peach, spice, jasmine and lemon oil are some of the many notes that flesh out in this utterly captivating and expressive Chablis from Raveneau.

Postcard from Chablis: The 2018s & 2017s (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Chablis Forêt 1er Cru is bright and finely sculpted, with plenty of crushed rock, white flower and citrus character. Translucent and vibrant, the 2018 sizzles with tension from the very first taste. The house style dominates over the vintage, but that is not a bad thing at all, just an observation.
