2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Bright red. Sexy aromas of cherry, raspberry, menthol and truffley underbrush. Sappy and energetic, with good mineral energy to the flavors of red berries, spices and pepper. Lovely silky wine with a light touch and a firm spine of acids and tannins. A superb 2011 with a long finish.

Simply…..Dom Pérignon (Jan 2009)

These four vintages of Dom Pérignon provide a fascinating snapshot of how the house has performed in recent years. The 1999 Dom Pérignon is a little flabbier than the 2000. Smoke, toastiness, tar and ripe fruit emerge from the glass in a generous, expansive style. The 1999 offers more body than the 2000 but the…

New Vintage Champagnes (Nov 2007)

Green-tinted gold. Tightly wound lime and pink grapefruit aromas open slowly to reveal a gently smoky mineral and floral character, with a light kiss of green cardamom adding interest. Very fresh on the palate, with youthful citrus and green apple flavors giving way to slightly riper blood orange and pear. Finishes firm and dry, with…

Blind Vision: 2015 Burgundy Red & White (Nov 2018)

The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Cras 1er Cru is heavily reduced and displays a touch of brettanomyces that obscures any fruit expression. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, low in acidity, and quite animally and bretty, with a smudged finish. This wine performed much better in barrel, and given the showing of…

A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1999 Les Ormes de Pez is a vintage that I have not tasted before. Its appearance is more mature than its 20 years would suggest. The nose is a little diffuse; touches of potpourri and musk infuse the loose-knit red fruit, and a touch of brick dust emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied…

2000, 1999 and 1998 Bordeaux (May 2001)

Dark red. Plum, redcurrant and tobacco on the nose. On the lean side and distinctly green tasted next to the 2000. With only modest flavor development, this offers limited personality.
