2009 Red Burgundies (Mar 2012)

Bright medium red. Cool aromas of cherry, menthol and minerals turned a bit oaky with air. Silky and round but juicy, with firm acidity and underlying minerality giving punch to the raspberry and mint. A step up in intensity and shape from the Clos de la Mousse, but in need of a few years to…

2006 and 2005 Red Burgundies (Mar 2008)

Bright ruby-red. Pure, discreet aromas of black raspberry, spices, minerals and coffee; Lachaux says this is closed today but I find its subtle perfume utterly seductive. Wonderfully sweet and dense, with a seamless texture and no impression of weight. Extraordinarily sappy and aromatic for the vintage. The building, expanding finish features substantial sweet tannins and…

2006 and 2005 Red Burgundies (Mar 2008)

Bright, dark red. Pure, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry, flowers and spices. Wonderfully sweet and pure, with a much higher pitch and sharper definition than the Cailleret. The strong fruit flavors are enlivened by peppery spices, herbs, minerals and flowers. Very tightly wound wine, with the strength of flavor to outlast its firm tannins. But…

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Saturated medium ruby. Inky cassis, black raspberry, graphite and pungent minerality on the very ripe nose. Dense, rich and silky, with a brooding inky minerality and an almost liqueur-like dark fruit sweetness leavened by a savory peppery element. This very ripe, deep and concentrated wine boasts wonderful lushness without any undue weight thanks to its…

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Bright dark red. Aromas of licorice, espresso and herbs, with a hint of blue fruits in the background. Nicely balanced but not especially rich or concentrated, with fresh dark berry flavors framed by harmonious acidity. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins and a hint of something green. Disappointing in the context of the vintage.

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc; 21 h/h; 3.4 pH, 14.5% alcohol) Inky-purple. Intense aromas of violet, ripe citrus fruit, strawberry and cedar. Then fresh and bright in the mouth, with rich raspberry, dark plum and mineral flavors. The mounting tannins stay smooth on the long finish. One of the best Moulin Saint-Georges I remember…
