2010 Brunello di Montalcino: A Promise Fulfilled (Feb 2015)

Altesino’s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is fresh, lively and very nicely balanced throughout. Sweet red berries, mint, sage and cinnamon lift from the glass. The 2010 is effortless and totally delicious today, although the flavors are quite fruit-driven. Readers who are looking for more complexity will want to age the 2010 for at least a…

2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

Denis Durantou’s 2015 La Petite Eglise is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. Classy, polished and super-refined in every way, the Petite Eglise is all class. The bright red cherry, hard candy, mint and rose petal notes are beautifully delineated throughout. Even with all of its obvious fruit density, the 2015…

2012 Red Burgundy: Against All Odds (Jan 2014)

The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny is striking. Dried rose petals, crushed berries, mint and licorice all waft from the glass effortlessly. Supple, racy and medium in body, the 2012 impresses for its persistence and pure Chambolle charm. All the elements fall into place beautifully. The 2012 is a gorgeous wine that should offer a wide window of…

Bright medium red. Red fruits, spices and herbs on the complex, slightly reduced nose. Nicely dense and juicy, with the red fruit flavors enlivened by spices, herbs and saline minerality. Finishes with a hint of licorice. Shows good intensity for this cuvee, which has been much improved in recent years.

2018 Burgundy: Confounded Expectations (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Village has a pretty, vivacious bouquet of very well-defined red cherry and strawberry fruit. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity and a touch of tomato vine toward the finish. Leaner than the 2018 but displays decent length.

2017 Burgundy: A Modern Classic (Jan 2019)

Matured in around 20% new oak, the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Village, which comes from 11 parcels scattered around the appellation, has a brisk black cherry and raspberry bouquet that is quite airy in style. The palate is sorbet-fresh on the entry with a fine line of acidity, and lightly spiced with red fruit merging with more…
