Everyday Piedmont – Dolcetto, Barbera and Langhe Nebbiolo (Nov 2014)

The 2012 Barbera d’Alba Cascina Francia stands out for its exceptional finesse and delicacy. Sweet rose petals, mint, cinnamon and red berries are all laced together in a soft, polished Barbera long on class and finesse. Perfumed notes continues to open up in the glass, while brighter, more saline-inflected notes give the wine its sense…

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Medium red. Deep, ripe aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, rose petal and underbrush, with complementary oak tones. Rich, sappy and sweet; compellingly round and ripe but with lovely underlying minerality providing support to the red fruit flavors. Captivating wine with ripe tannins and excellent perfumed length. This boasts near-grand cru texture.

2011 Red Burgundy: Three Sides of a Coin (Mar 2014)

The 2011 Volnay Taillepieds is the only wine of the six 2011s I tasted here that is angular and compact. Perhaps additional time in bottle will do the trick, but today, the elements aren’t fully put together.

Then sweet and fresh in the mouth, with red berry and herb flavors turning a tad green on the back end, which features substantial dusty tannins….

Albion Gets Serious: English Sparkling Wine (Jul 2020)

The 2017 Boot Hill Vineyard Guinevere comes from selected parcels of Chardonnay from the estate, matured for 12 months in oak barriques. Silvery in hue, it has a well-defined bouquet with almond and sesame scents, developing subtle marine-like notes with aeration. The oak is nicely integrated both on the nose and on the palate, which…

2017 Barolo: Here We Go Again… (Feb 2021)

The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is pretty, supple and inviting. Some of the tannins need to resolve, but this is a young Barolo after all. The Coste di Rose doesn’t have the sensuality of the Albe or the pedigree of the Viole, but it nevertheless has so much to give. Crushed flowers, sweet red…
