2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

The 2015 Mauvesin Barton is floral, perfumed and lifted, all of which make it absolutely delicious to drink now. Blue fruit, lavender, mint and spice nuances are layered into the wine’s fabric. All the elements are very nicely balanced.

Finally: Bordeaux 2015 In Bottle (Jul 2019)

The 2015 Mauvesin Barton is beginning to fulfill the promise it showed from barrel. Black cherries and strawberry define that somewhat plush but focused nose. The palate is medium-bodied, supple and balanced with a smooth sheen on the long finish. This is well worth seeking out. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Stand and Deliver: 2001 Sauternes (Sep 2021)

The 2001 Suduiraut has a very well-defined bouquet of marmalade, honeysuckle, touches of kerosene and pine, all focused and vigorous. The palate is balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and vibrant, featuring Seville orange marmalade mixed with orange peel, peach and wild honey; it displays a little more delineation than I have noticed…

Focus on Sauternes/Barsac (Jul 2004)

Medium yellow-gold. Flamboyantly ripe, complex nose combines pineapple, apricot, toffee, clove and vanilla. Hugely sweet and rich, with deep, powerful flavors of honey, marzipan and toffee. A major mouthful of wine, with great lingering sweetness. Today, this makes the Rieussec seem almost polite by comparison.

Bordeaux’s Radiant 2015s (Apr 2016)

The 2015 Olivier is bright, crisp and absolutely delicious. Grapefruit, lemon peel and a host of grassy notes add a kick of salivating freshness on the tense, vibrant finish. This is a strong showing.

Finally: Bordeaux 2015 In Bottle (Jul 2019)

The 2015 Olivier Blanc has a fragrant bouquet of fresh pear, red apple and light lanolin aromas soaring from the glass. The palate is very appley on the entry: Granny Smith apples and a touch of pear segue into a ginger-tinged second half that fans out nicely. Lacks a little sophistication but is well-crafted. One…
