Passing the Baton: Lynch-Bages 1945-2018 (Jul 2023)

The 2002 Lynch-Bages shows just a little bricking on the rim. The nose is initially reticent with earthy black fruit, cedar and tobacco, a bit conservative compared to its peers. The palate offers leafy black fruit mixed with sage and black pepper. This feels a little austere and a bit mean on the finish, though…

2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Deep red. Aromas of blueberry, plum, leather, tobacco and mocha. Sweet, plummy and pliant, with a creamy, fine-grained texture for the vintage. Very plush wine, richer than the 2006 and at least as long. Finishes with big but ripe tannins.

2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Ruby-red color. Dark plum, graphite, minerals and mint on the nose. Offers a subtle sweetness leavened by lively acidity and nicely framed by a firm tannic spine. A wine of modest flesh but considerable suavity. Very well balanced and persistent, with the mineral notes repeating on the back. Very Pauillac.

Bright red-ruby. Deep aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, leather, smoke and flowers. Dense but juicy, with lovely finesse and flavor intensity. Notes of mocha, chocolate and leather linger nicely on the lively finish, which features substantial but rather fine tannins. This is excellent.

The Many Facets of Rioja (Nov 2015)

Bright ruby-red. Complex, intensely perfumed bouquet of candied cherry, vanilla, mocha, cured tobacco and spicecake, with a suave potpourri note becoming stronger in the glass. Offers sweet, penetrating cherry-cola and lavender pastille flavors complicated by hints of smoky minerals and candied licorice. The long, subtly tannic finish delivers noteworthy energy and focus, leaving suave spicecake…
