1997 and 1996 Red Burgundies (Mar 1999)

Bright deep red. More deeply pitched aromas of maraschino cherry, musky strawberry, gunpowder and earth. Quite minerally and closed in the middle palate, with texture currently masked by strong acids. Today the tannins are rather tough, making the wine difficult to taste. But finishes with persistent tart cherry flavor. Both this and the Fuees may…

2003 and 2002 Chablis (Jul 2004)

Classic, steely aromas of wet stone, gunflint and humid earth; a very pure expression of this grand cru site. Big and broad on the palate, with mouthstaining concentration, but much more backward than the Blanchots, and not yet showing that wine’s sweetness or opulence of texture. Today, the strong acids have the upper hand. But…

Vinous Table: Daniel, New York (Jun 2015)

We started with Raveneau’s 2002 Chablis Valmur, a wine I absolutely adore. Voluptuous, but still young, the 2002 is in a gorgeous place right now where time in bottle has softened some the contours and added layers of aromatic nuance. The 2002 retains considerable freshness and should continue to offer exceptional drinking for another decade-plus….

2003 and 2002 Red Burgundies (Mar 2005)

Medium red. Very ripe aromas of strawberry, raspberry and minerals. Then lush, silky, sweet and suave, with musky flavors of red berries, spices and red pepper. Distinctly fatter and more pliant than the Chaignots. Here, too, the tannins are quite fine.

Value Through Time: Burgundy 1932-2016 (Aug 2021)

The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru has a wonderful, quite sensual bouquet laden with red cherries, kirsch and orange pith, gaining aeration all the time in the glass. The palate has good grip, almost Morey-like in terms of backbone, a liberal sprinkling of black pepper and a smudge of dark chocolate toward the finish…

2007 and 2006 Red Burgundies (Mar 2009)

Good dark red. Compellingly vibrant aromas of raspberry, strawberry and blood orange lifted by spices and crushed stone. Intense and alive on the palate, boasting terrific density for village wine. The long, sweet, palate-staining finish features dusty tannins and impressive energy. A big success.
