2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Medium red-ruby. Reticent but sweet nose offers plum, black cherry, minerals and bitter chocolate. Thick and powerful but with excellent vinosity and sweetness as well as a slightly exotic character to the red fruit and spice flavors. Deep, slow-mounting wine that builds impressively on the back end. The tannins here make those of the 2006…

2005 Bordeaux: Here and Now (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Haut-Bages Libéral is a very young Pauillac that is just beginning to show the first signals of aromatic opening. Sweet dried cherry, mint, spice, licorice and dried flowers all grace this mid-weight Pauillac. Haut-Bages Libéral is not quite as opulent as most other Pauillacs in 2005, and it could have benefitted from a…

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Good ruby-red. Cool aromas of blueberry, licorice and shoe polish. Sweet and lush, but with very good energy to the rather high-pitched flavors of dark berries, spices and licorice. Dry and classic wine, finishing with substantial, slightly tough tannins that call for patience.

2000 and 1999 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2002)

Medium ruby-red. Roasted cherry, woodsmoke and underbrush aromas. Sweet and smooth in the mouth, with a smoky animal quality and more obvious vivacity and grip than the 2000. Nicely balanced and fresh.

Chablis 2011 and 2010 (Jul 2012)

Very sexy, ripe aromas of pina colada, powdered stone and pepper; at once powerful and open on the nose. Fat, sweet and highly concentrated, showing more volume and weight than the Blanchots. A distinctly gentle, silky style of Clos with noteworthy richness. This will be accessible early but appears to have the underlying structure for…

Chablis 2011 and 2010 (Aug 2012)

Long-Depaquit’s 2010 Chablis Les Clos blossoms on the palate. It possesses terrific length and good overall balance. Floral notes appear on the finish, adding lift and perfume. The Clos is a pretty wine, but what really comes through most is the house style rather than a purer expression of site.
