Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet 1978-2015 (Jun 2019)

The 2008 Montrachet is a touch reduced and not fully expressive. Several recent bottles have shown more in line with what is typical of the 2008: a rich, hedonistically intense wine endowed with tremendous oiliness, textural intensity and heavy botrytis character. Two thousand-eight remains one of my all-time favorite vintages of the domaine’s Montrachet. Tasted…

The 2009 Red Burgundies (May 2011)

The 2008 La Tâche is another huge, powerful wine. Deep layers of perfumed fruit flow fomr this gorgeous wine. Mint, crushed flowers, orange peerl and spcies are just some of the notes that emerge from the wonderfully textured fruit. Darker hints of earthiness, tar and minerals frame the sweeping, eternal finish. This is simply dazzling.

2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

Good medium-deep red. Knockout high-pitched nose shows great lift to its aromas of raspberry, rose petal and Oriental spices. Silky-sweet, supple and highly concentrated but very tightly coiled today. Saturates the entire palate without exerting any impression of weight. Wonderfully suave, plush wine with superb energy on the very long, vibrating finish.

2006 and 2005 Red Burgundies (Mar 2008)

Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of cherry, currant, tobacco and smoky, nutty oak, with traces of vanilla and sweet butter; showing less of the early treble notes of flowers and spices than usual for La Tache but they are lurking in the background. Then wonderfully supple, silky and sweet, conveying an impression of brooding extract; quite…

A Birthday Dinner at Momofuku Ko, New York (May 2016)

The 2005 La Tâche is simply magnificent. There is not too much I can add. Deep, powerful and richly textured, the 2005 simply has it all. Time in the glass releases the aromatics, but it is the wine’s pure sensuality I find most enticing. A host of dark red and blue stone fruits, hard candy…

A Birthday Dinner at Momofuku Ko, New York (May 2016)

A last minute addition to the lineup, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 2005 Romanée Saint-Vivant opens with the most extraordinary, alluring bouquet imaginable. Silky, nuanced and super-polished on the palate, with exceptional purity, the 2005 simply soars out of the glass. The classic weightlessness of RSV comes through loud and clear. Bright saline notes give the…
