The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2005)

Red-ruby. Currant, tobacco, menthol and fresh herbs on the nose. Supple but classically dry, with flavors similar to the aromas. Offers a restrained sweetness in the middle palate, but finishes a tad dry, with a hint of dill.

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2003)

Good medium red-ruby. Aromas of blackberry, minerals, coffee and spices; at once cool and liqueur-like. Lush, chewy, sweet and deep, with vibrant flavors of black cherry and chocolate. Finishes with firm tannins and very good length and grip. Showing very well.

2000, 1999 and 1998 Bordeaux (May 2001)

Medium ruby. Inky aromas of blueberry, cherry and licorice. Primary black fruit flavors offer good sweetness and texture. Finishes with dusty tannins and good length. The most promising vintage for this wine in years.

Léoville-Poyferré 1936-2018 (Sep 2022)

The 2006 Léoville-Poyferré has an impressive Cabernet driven nose, almost Pauillac-like with pencil box and mint aromas infusing the vivacious black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very smooth in the mouth although not amazingly complex. Perhaps here it has lost some of its youthful zest, though there is impressive muscle with plenty…

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Full ruby-red. Ripe aromas of currant, milk chocolate and smoky oak. Lush, sweet and full, with superripe yet backward flavors of dark berries, dark chocolate and minerals. Wonderfully layered, structured wine whose excellent vinosity and firm tannins call for several years of patience.

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Sexy aromas of raspberry, mocha and milk chocolate. Fat, sweet, rich and full; a large-scaled, seamless wine with terrific volume. Just a hint of exotic roasted character on the palate-caressing finish. As appealing as this is right now, it appears to be shutting down in the bottle.
