Bordeaux 2013: Definitely Not the Vintage of the Century (May 2014)

(52% merlot, 38% cabernet sauvignon, 8% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc; 89% of the crop went into the grand vin ; 34 hectoliters per hectare production): Good medium ruby. Perfumed aromas of redcurrant, black cherry, licorice and violet. Suave on entry, then almost tart in the middle, with very high refreshing acidity really lifting…

2013 Bordeaux: Walking the Tightrope (Apr 2014)

The 2013 Tronquoy Lalande is a bit compact, but is nevertheless quite pretty, as the flavors are subtle and nicely delineated. This has a liqueur-like ripeness for the year but could use a bit more definition. The tannins turned a bit dusty with…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2003)

(60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 10% cabernet franc) Moderately saturated medium ruby. Cassis, blackberry, chocolate and licorice on the nose. Then sweet, smooth and pliant in the mouth, with a lovely lush texture firmed by harmonious acidity. Expands nicely on the back half, finishing with late-hitting tannins. (A first sample showed distinct herbaceousness on…
