2006 and 2005 White Burgundies (Sep 2007)

Reticent but highly nuanced nose suggests white peach, hawthorn and acacia flower. Sweet, lush and fine-grained, with sharply delineated flavors of white peach and lime. Wonderfully concentrated, complex premier cru, finishing with superb elegance and grip. Very long and subtle on the back end. Wait four or five years on this one. These vines, planted…

The 2011 Côte de Beaune Whites: Grace in Motion (Sep 2013)

Sweet hints of Chamomile, honey, almonds and yellow-fleshed fruit wrap around the palate as the 2011 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet shows off its class. Rich, layered and enveloping to the core, the Champ Canet is another wine that is going to need time to fully come together. I especially admire the wine’s volume, texture and soft…

2012 and 2011 White Burgundies (Sep 2013)

Green-tinged straw color. Fresh yellow peach and a suggestion of rocky austerity on the nose. Bright lemony acidity enlivens the tactile flavors of citrus, spices, flowers, minerals and white pepper. Finishes backward and quite dry, with a saline quality dusting the palate. I particularly like the wine’s smoky mineral tension. This cuvee is the domain’s…

2012 and 2011 White Burgundies (Sep 2013)

(like the Meursault, this was bottled in mid-May): Pale, green-tinged yellow. Reticent but pure aromas of lemon peel, mirabelle, orange flower and stone. Supple, lush and pure, with a fine grain to the flavors of white peach and spices. Finishes dry and long, with enough acidity to maintain its shape. Will this close down in…

2013 and 2012 White Burgundies (Sep 2014)

(bottled the day before my late-May visit): Orange juice, peach and a hint of spice on the nose. Pure and focused, with lovely acidity and calcaire-driven minerality giving the middle palate a very taut quality. Finishes precise and long, with excellent cut and grip. I’d wait four or five years to pull the cork.

The 2014 & 2013 White Burgundies (Sep 2015)

Pale, bright yellow. Refined aromas of white peach, spices and minerals. Classier and higher in acidity than the Meursault, with apple and stone fruit flavors carrying well on the back end. This wine was being bottled on the day of my visit.
