Champagne – 2019 Fall Releases (Dec 2019)

The 2008 Cristal is one of the most complete, most dazzling Champagnes I have ever tasted. A stunning wine from any and all perspectives, the 2008 simply has it all. Spherical in construction, with superb persistence. The 2008 takes hold of all the senses and never gives up. One of the many things that makes…

2014 Roederer Cristal (Feb 2022)

The 2014 Cristal is another in a long line of gorgeous wines from Roederer and long-time Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon. A dazzling, vibrant Champagne, the 2014 impresses with a stunning combination of fruit density and linear energy that brings to mind a hypothetical blend of 2012 and 2008. At times, the bubbles feel totally…

Dom Pérignon: A Rosé Retrospective: 1962-2004 (May 2015)

A wine of real power and intensity, the 1985 Dom Pérignon Rosé is exceptionally beautiful tonight. The flavors are rich, layered and expansive. Hints of caramel and hazelnut add nuance to a core of expressive red berry fruit, but it is the wine’s textural generosity that is most impressive considering the 1985 is now thirty…

2013 Bordeaux: Walking the Tightrope (Apr 2014)

One of the true stand outs of the vintage, the 2013 La Fleur-Pétrus is superb. Graphite, violets, lavender, savory herbs, smoke and purplish fruit all meld together in a wine of incomparable grace. The La Fleur-Pétrus impresses for its textural elegance, volume and sheer class. It is without question one of the wines of the…

Bordeaux 2013: Definitely Not the Vintage of the Century (May 2014)

Deep ruby. Ripe aromas of blackcurrant jam, blueberry pie, minerals and spices. Nicely rich and dense, with blueberry jam and blackberry syrup flavors refreshed by lively harmonious acidity. This is one of the rare wines in 2013 that does remind one of cassis. Finishes with very good length. A major success.

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Cheval Blanc has another extravagant bouquet with ample red cherries, raspberry preserve, mulberry, fig and singed leather. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite dense and assertive, backward with a sinewy finish that just feels a little forced compared to some of the other wines in this flight. With time in the…
