The Red Wines of Northeast Italy (Mar 2012)

Good deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of redcurrant and crushed rock, with a red berry liqueur-like nuance. Supple, lush and sweet, but with surprising acidity and a recurring mineral quality energizing the middle palate. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. This has the stuffing to age but also offers considerable upfront appeal.

Allegrini Amarone: 1982 – 2004 (Apr 2010)

The 1993 Amarone is simply fabulous. The 1993 is the first wine in this tasting that is fully mature. Dark cherries, spices, menthol and licorice are just some of the aromas and flavors that emerge from this gorgeous, complex Amarone. The wine still maintains considerable body and richness, but the flavors are in the full…

Germany’s Charming 2002 Vintage (Jan 2004)

Germany 2008: Crisp, Pure and Refreshing (Jan 2010)

(auction wine) Lively aromas of nectarine, candied lemon and nut oils. Elegant, spicy peach pit flavor displays impressive extract and saline acidity. Finishes creamy and convincing, with brown spices lingering persistently. An excellent spatlese!

Germany 2012 (Jan 2014)

Strawberry, oyster shell, licorice and nut oils on the nose. Fruit essences and mineral salts animate the rich yet delicate palate. Crisp, clean and delicious already.

Germany 2001: Golden October? (Nov 2002)

(from cask) Prum calls this wine typically somewhat reserved vis-a-vis the Graacher Auslese but I apprehend a level of sheer flavor intensity that goes beyond the other wines here today, with apple, honey and spice supported by a volatile esterous note of botrytis and even a prickly Eiswein-like whiff of chili pepper. Impressive custardy richness…
