1996 and 1995 Red Burgundies (Mar 1998)

Black-ruby color. Very black, rather claret-like aromas of cassis, violet, licorice and mint. Vibrant, intense cassis flavor seems less evolved than the ’95 at a similar stage. Boasts persistent finishing flavor, but the tannins are tougher and a bit dry.

1997 and 1996 Red Burgundies (Mar 1999)

Good saturated red-ruby color. Highly nuanced aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, rose petal, minerals, orange peel and game. Bright and firm on entry, then concentrated and thick with extract. Flavors are sharply delineated. Firmly structured yet generous of texture and flavor. Very long, slow opening aftertaste.

1999 and 1998 Red Burgundies (Mar 2001)

Good ruby-red. Musky, slightly reduced aromas of black raspberry, leather and game. Supple, spicy and rather easygoing, with moderate depth of flavor and length. Finishes with rather soft tannins. Should offer early appeal.

Lovely cut here, as well as a tannic spine that calls for four or five years of aging. Jeremy Seysses noted that with the…

2011 Red Burgundy: Three Sides of a Coin (Mar 2014)

The 2011 Gevrey Chambertin Aux Combottes is built in a bright, mid-weight style that emphasizes tension and energy. All the elements are very nicely balanced, even if the 2011 favors structure over fruit, at least today. The Combottes was much more supple and expressive from barrel. It will be interesting to see if the fruit…

Champagnes Salon & Delamotte 1959-2007 (Jun 2016)

The 1959 Salon is the first of two wines served blind towards the end of this vertical. Although the 1959 retains considerable power for a wine of its age, it is also past peak. Hints of orange peel, butter, spice and brown butter give the 1959 its oxidative, fully mature personality. The 1959 is not…
