2009 Barolo: Highs and Lows, Part 2 (Oct 2013)

Conterno’s 2009 Barolo Cascina Francia wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth. A wine of volume and breadth, the 2009 fleshes out beautifully on the palate with layers of harmonious, silky fruit. Sweet tobacco, mint, flowers, spices and the most beautiful pure fruit all flesh out on the voluptuous, inviting finish. All the elements are…

Everyday Piedmont – Dolcetto, Barbera and Langhe Nebbiolo (Nov 2014)

The 2012 Barbera d’Alba Cascina Francia stands out for its exceptional finesse and delicacy. Sweet rose petals, mint, cinnamon and red berries are all laced together in a soft, polished Barbera long on class and finesse. Perfumed notes continues to open up in the glass, while brighter, more saline-inflected notes give the wine its sense…

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Medium red. Deep, ripe aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, rose petal and underbrush, with complementary oak tones. Rich, sappy and sweet; compellingly round and ripe but with lovely underlying minerality providing support to the red fruit flavors. Captivating wine with ripe tannins and excellent perfumed length. This boasts near-grand cru texture.

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

(these wines were bottled in April and May of 2013): Good bright red. Very ripe aromas of cherry, raspberry, mocha, pepper and earth; at once slightly roasted and herbal. Then sweet and fresh in the mouth, with red berry and herb flavors turning a tad green on the back end, which features substantial dusty tannins….

Albion Gets Serious: English Sparkling Wine (Jul 2020)

The 2017 Boot Hill Vineyard Guinevere comes from selected parcels of Chardonnay from the estate, matured for 12 months in oak barriques. Silvery in hue, it has a well-defined bouquet with almond and sesame scents, developing subtle marine-like notes with aeration. The oak is nicely integrated both on the nose and on the palate, which…
