Bordeaux’s Radiant 2015s (Apr 2016)

The 2015 Tour de Pez appears to offer limited depth and overall complexity, with faded, washed out flavors and little complexity.

2005 Bordeaux: Here and Now (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Tour Baladoz is a racy, opulent Saint-Émilion. Succulent red cherry, mocha, rose petal and cinnamon all flesh out. Soft contours and silky tannins add to its immediacy and overall appeal. The 2005 is a real charmer.

2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Dark red. Complex, slightly funky aromas of plum, smoked meat, espresso bean, exotic chocolate and leather. Fat and soft, with a plum flavor joined by slightly rustic leather and game on the back. (60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 10% cabernet franc) Moderately saturated medium ruby. Cassis, blackberry, chocolate and licorice on the nose. Then sweet, smooth and pliant in the mouth, with a lovely lush texture firmed by harmonious acidity. Expands nicely on the back half, finishing with late-hitting tannins. (A first sample showed distinct herbaceousness on…

Outsider Looking In: Sociando-Mallet 1982-2015 (March 2019)

The 2003 Sociando-Mallet is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc picked between September 10 and 24. It was aged in new oak barrels for 11 months. Coming from the north Médoc, it would have enjoyed onshore breezes that mitigated the summer heat. The bouquet shows no signs of that…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

: Good medium ruby-red color. More grilled on the nose than the 2004 or 2005: superripe black fruits and bitter chocolate. Then liqueur-like verging on confectionery in the mouth, but with surprisingly healthy acids giving shape to the dominant black fruit flavors. At once velvety and quite powerful, with the fine-grained tannins currently conveying a…
