2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Deep red. Roasted red fruits, smoked meat, tobacco and a note of truffle on the expressive nose. Sweet and rather primary, with classic Pessac-Leognan flavors of iron, woodsmoke, hot stones and tobacco. Broad and smooth for the year, if not quite as dense as the young 2006. Finishes with lovely ripe tannins and lingering sweetness….

Château Siran 1918-2008 (Jun 2020)

The 2012 Siran is nicely detailed on the nose with redcurrant, red plum, crushed stone, cedar and pencil lead scents vying for energy – great energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy and quite firm tannins. Graphite-tinged black fruit becomes spicier with aeration, the finish offering both substance and length. This has always been…

Bordeaux 2011: Tales of Tannins and Terroir (May 2012)

Deep ruby. Cassis, violet and truffle on the rich nose. Then sweet and smooth on the palate, with ripe tannic support for the wine’s red fruit, tobacco and loam flavors. At once creamy and lively on the persistent finish. Insiders know that La Serre does very well in dry years thanks to the high clay…

2014 Bordeaux: A September Surprise (Feb 2017)

The 2014 Senejac is a very pretty, if somewhat understated, wine. Sweet floral notes, bright red stone fruit, mint and licorice are nicely delineated. The 2014 is a touch slender, but it offers solid balance. Drink this pleasing midweight Haut-Médoc over the next few years.

(65% cabernet sauvignon, 27% merlot, 7% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot; 24 hl/ha; 33% new barrels) Medium red. Lovely floral nose offers violet, cranberry and mineral aromas. Fresh and pure, with a pretty mineral element framing the redcurrant and blackberry flavors. A very well balanced, medium-bodied, uncomplicated Bordeaux with sneaky concentration and a moderately…

A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 Ségla under cork has a very enticing blackberry, raspberry, cedar and orange rind scented bouquet that opens nicely in the glass, gathering momentum with every swirl. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity. Quite dense and structured with a judicious dash of spice towards the classy and persistent…
