Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival 2017 (Nov 2017)

The 2000 Lafite-Rothschild is utterly sublime. Delicate, sensual and wonderfully nuanced, the 2000 is majestic. The purity of the fruit is simply striking.

New Releases from Piedmont: The Stars Are Aligned (Oct 2011)

The single-vineyard 2007 Barolo Roggeri is deeper and more powerful than the regular bottling, but also quite a bit more tannic. The dark fruit is attractive, but the use of French oak dominates the wine’s balance. Sweet spices, leather and licorice linger on the finish.

1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Good saturated full red. Exotic nose combines roasted raspberry, minerals and coffee; slight suggestions of old wine. Then sweet and minerally in the mouth, with nicely firm-edged fruit and good flavor delineation. Finish shows a slight dry edge and a hint of greenness. Best today in the middle palate. Drink over the next five years.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Twos (Sep 2022)

The 1982 Pavie has a rustic nose with melted tar piercing the black earthy fruit, mulberry and pencil shavings emerging with time. Penfolds Collection 2021 (Jul 2021)

Opaque, bright-rimmed ruby. Highly pungent, smoke- and mineral-accented aromas of cherry pit, violet candy, cured tobacco, savory herbs, coconut and exotic spices on the kaleidoscopic nose. Shows superb clarity and spicy lift to its spice-laced bitter cherry, cassis, blueberry and floral pastille flavors, which take on black cardamom, menthol and cola nuances as the wine…

1995 and 1994 Bordeaux (May 1996)

Very good deep red-ruby color. Initially mute nose opens to reveal a sappy black cherry and licorice aroma, but no sign of the superripe quality found in the best Lafleurs from decades past. Dense and extremely backward in the mouth; displays a very primary iodiney/fruit pit quality and excellent sweetness. Powerfully structured and quite tannic;…
