Napa Valley’s 2022 & 2023 Cabernet Sauvignons (Dec 2024)

The 2013 Opus One is a powerful, dense wine. A blast of dark-fleshed fruit, leather, spice, tobacco, menthol and licorice races across the palate. The 2013 still possesses notable textural depth. The aromatics are a bit open and also suggestive of a wine that has entered its first plateau of maturity.

Bordeaux 2015 At Age Ten (Jun 2025)

The 2015 Mouton-Rothschild has a very Pauillac-like bouquet with cassis, violet and pencil shaving aromas that are all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins. This is so sapid with touches of shucked oyster shells toward the persistent finish. It is excellent. Tasted blind at the 2015 Bordeaux Ten-Year-On tasting.

Bordeaux 2015 At Age Ten (Jun 2025)

The 2015 Mouton-Rothschild has a sense of exuberance on the nose, with fleshy red berry fruit, briary, tobacco and light sous-bois scents. This does not have the intensity of the 2015 Latour at the moment. The palate is very well balanced with pliant tannins. It's harmonious and poised, with fine depth and silky texture, though…

A Century of…Fours (Jun 2024)

The 2004 Haut-Brion has a superb bouquet with very well-defined blackberry, cedar, cigar humidor and dried blood scents that blossom in the glass – quintessential Haut-Brion. The palate is medium-bodied with an almost medicinal entry and fine acidity. It’s the eucalyptus aspect that really defines the finish, something that I was not expecting. Does that…

Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Cos d’Estournel is a wine of extreme elegance. Silky and light on its feet, the 2020 is incredibly nuanced. In fact it is without question the most finessed of all the top wines in Saint-Estèphe, showing more in common with some of its neighbors in the north of Pauillac than the more potent…
