Tuscany 2006 and 2007: A New Golden Age (Aug 2009)

The estate’s 2006 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is especially round and harmonious in this vintage. Ripe red cherries, leather, licorice and spices come together in this soft, accessible Vino Nobile. The finish is long, perfumed and quite pretty.

Chianti, Vino Nobile and Super-Tuscans (Jul 2010)

(a 50/50 blend of sangiovese from Capannelle and merlot from Avignonesi; 18 months in French barriques; 35 g/l dry extract; 13.5% alcohol) Fully saturated ruby. Earth, cocoa and bay leaf nuances complement black plum and blueberry on the nose. Rich, dense and fleshy, with chocolate and pepper notes complicating the ripe black fruit flavors. This…

In a Tuscan State of Mind (Oct 2010)

A rush of jammy dark berries is the first sensation that emerges from the 2005 50 & 50 a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese made in partnership with Avignonesi. The 50 & 50 shows a bit more accessibility and sheer plumpness than the decidedly structured Solare. New leather, spices, chocolate, espresso and toasted French oak…

Finally: Bordeaux 2015 In Bottle (Jul 2019)

The 2015 Cyprès de Climens has quite an oaky bouquet but it is in sync with the fruit that feels very concentrated and botrytis-driven. Brioche, almond and flecks of white chocolate make this a real crowd-pleaser. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, moderate acidity with a subtle petrol-like tincture toward the concentrated…

2006 and 2005 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2008)

Dark red. Ripe red berries and cherry on the nose, with a complex array of garrigue and floral qualities adding complexity. Seems to have gained in weight and ripeness since last year, offering deep, rich raspberry and kirsch flavors and impressive finishing thrust. Really clings to the palate, leaving a trail of smoky red fruits…

2007 and 2005 Sauternes and Barsacs (Jul 2008)

Full yellow-gold. Expressive aromas of pineapple, coconut, sweet vanillin oak and spices. Then wonderfully thick, fat and sweet, with the exotic coconut character carrying through in the mouth. Finishes saline and powerful, with palate-staining flavors of pineapple, coconut and spicy oak. Conveys a strong impression of solidity.
