The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Batailley has a strict, fresh, graphite tinged bouquet with more fruité than its peers, very well defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, taut and linear, very good tension here with that vein of graphite running through to the finish. Classy. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Vinous Table: Carbone, New York (Jul 2015)

The 1966 Palmer is simply remarkable. Boasting superb pliancy for a wine of its age, the 1966 is incredibly deep and polished throughout. The flavors are broad, dark and inviting.

1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Full red. Nose of marzipan and old wood; not clean. Sweet, dense and gripping, but the flavors are getting old. Finishes with a dry edge. Not a good bottle of this normally great wine, which at its best is nearly the equal of the ’61 at about one-third the price.

Coats the palate with intense blackberry, boysenberry and cola flavors that spread out steadily with air. Shows a suave blend of richness and finesse, finishing very long and sweet, with smooth tannins sneaking in late.

Northern Rhône: Solid ’14 Reds and Outstanding ’15 Whites (Jul 2017)

Deep ruby. Lively aromas of ripe dark berries, cherry liqueur, licorice and candied violet on the highly perfumed nose. Round, seamless and broad on the palate, offering pliant blackberry and cherry compote flavors sharpened by a spicy nuance and a jolt of smoky minerality. Closes on a smoky note, displaying smooth tannins, excellent persistence and…

2017 Bordeaux – Mirror, Mirror on The Wall… (Mar 2020)

The 2017 Latour-Martillac is a dark, powerful wine with a ton of Cabernet Sauvignon savoriness, depth and structure. Black cherry, graphite, spice, leather, lavender and menthol infuse the 2017 with striking character and power. The 2017 is a serious, at times stubborn, wine that needs time to soften. Even in the early going, though, it…
