Thrice Is Nice: Bordeaux 2020 in Bottle (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Croix de Labrie has a highly perfumed, overly floral bouquet with crushed violet and iris infusing the dark cherry fruit. It manages to retain admirable delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied orange peel-tinged opening, harmonious, fine tannins and a fresh, cohesive finish. This is one of the best wines from Axelle…

Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Clos du Sarpe is an exotic beauty. Blackberry jam, graphite, menthol, licorice, crushed rocks, incense and white truffle give Clos du Sarpe its exotic profile. The aromatics alone are mesmerizing, but everything about the 2020 is so alluring. The 2020 needs time to soften, but it is compelling.

Thrice Is Nice: Bordeaux 2020 in Bottle (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Clos de Sarpe has a powerful nose yet is well-defined with seductive rose petal and iris flower scents; it’s focused and retains ample freshness. The palate is silky smooth on the entry. Fleshy, cohesive and minty towards the finish, the 2020 delivers lovely blueberry and cassis fruit. Modern in style, yet sophisticated. This…

The 2020 Clinet is hugely impressive, as it was from barrel. Dark and imposing, with notable vibrancy, the 2020 offers up an exotic mélange of black cherry, gravel, incense, plum, game and licorice. I would give this a few years in bottle, as the tannins are pretty imposing. Cabernet Sauvignon is so distinctive here.

Bordeaux 2020 – The Southwold Tasting (Nov 2024)

The 2020 Clinet has quite a lot of new oak to be subsumed on the nose, and at the moment, it is disguising the DNA of this château. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and pointed acidity, slightly bitter but with a pleasing salinity on the finish. I am intrigued to see how this…

Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Berliquet is another step in a direction favoring finesse over the burly power that often marked the wines of the past. Delicate and nuanced, with pretty floral top notes, this mid-weight Saint-Émilion is a charmer. Drink it over the next decade or so.
