Vinous Table: Chave Hermitage Vertical at Ristorante Morini, New York (May 2014)

The same is true of the 1991 Hermitage. A few months ago, I had a bottle of the Cuvée Cathelin, one of my favorite wines on the planet, so I was curious to check in on the Hermitage. Here it is the wine’s suppleness and silkiness that are utterly captivating. Expressive floral notes linger on…

Five Vertical Tastings (Jul 1999)

Medium red. Expressive aromas of roasted plums, redcurrant, minerals, coffee, leather, animal fur and spice. Supple and suave in the mouth, with notes of rust and brown spices. Quite fresh and inviting. Finishes with subtle, mounting fruit and very fine tannins.

Bordeaux 2011: Tales of Tannins and Terroir (May 2012)

Bright medium ruby-red. Ripe aromas of blackberry, violet and roasted oak. Suave on entry, then firm and minerally in the mid-palate, with good definition to its perfumed dark fruit and cocoa flavors. Comes across as pliant despite its brisk acidity and serious tannins. Good ripeness on the finish.

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Langoa Barton is succulent, racy and inviting, with striking textural richness and depth. Ripe dark plum, tobacco, cedar, licorice and spice are all generous in this racy, pliant Saint-Julien. The 2016 is an especially fine edition of Langoa-Barton and one of the sleepers of the vintage.

Southwold: 2016 Bordeaux Blind (Aug 2020)

The 2016 Langoa-Barton has a minty-fresh bouquet with plenty of black fruit; hints of pencil shavings and loamy elements develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and generous, but I was expecting more detail and terroir expression to show on the chewy, pastille-like finish. Very fine, although I suspect there will…
