The 2013 Red Burgundies: Fascinating and Challenging (Mar 2016)

(true Charmes): Medium red. Reticent, perfumed scents of red raspberry and rose petal. Denser and sweeter than the Vosne Suchots if not quite as precise and penetrating in the early going. But the wine’s subtle floral quality conveys a strong impression of energy and lift. Serious, firmly tannic grand cru with real class.

The 2012 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Mar 2015)

Full medium red. The aromas and flavors of black raspberry, coffee and tropical dark chocolate show an almost liqueur-like ripeness. Rich, layered and deep, showing near-grand cru density, solidity and lift. And yet not at all overly sweet. Outstanding Suchots, finishing with superb length and considerable power. The 2012 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Mar 2015)

Full medium red. Captivating aromas of redcurrant, spices, iron and tobacco lifted by a note of rose petal. Juicy, spicy and sharply delineated, showing surprising energy if not quite the depth of the Suchots. The red fruit and spice flavors are still quite tightly wound. Finishes with a serious tannic spine and excellent persistence.

The 2012 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Mar 2015)

Bright medium red. Ripe, alluring aromas and flavors of wild strawberry, raspberry and earth. Sweet, fine-grained and enveloping, showing lovely energy and density and still holding its fruit in reserve. Finishes fresh and firm-edged, with full, fine-grained tannins and excellent length.

2012 Red Burgundy: Against All Odds (Jan 2014)

A bevy of floral and spice notes meld into dark red fruit, cedar and new leather in the 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots. Rich and expressive yet also weightless in the glass, the 2012 impresses for its contrasts and multiple dimensions of pure class. The airy finish is all class.

Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2011 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru just feels a little flat-footed. It has a typical leafy bouquet, nicely defined but bereft of some horsepower, damp moss/undergrowth scents becoming more conspicuous with aeration. The palate is quite sharp and tart on the entry. This is certainly fresh but I wish there was more substance towards…
