2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

(100% vendange entier; 13.2% with a bit of chaptalization): Medium red. Highly complex nose combines wild dark berries, smoky herbs, brown spices, leather, rust and pepper. Suave, elegant and fine-grained; a lovely silky midweight with perfumed notes of iron, rust, olive, wild herbs, spices and pepper. Finishes with very good spicy length. This can be…

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Good medium red. Lovely floral lift to the aromas of black raspberry, licorice and spices. Fine-grained and light on its feet; seamless, precise and energetic, with enticing inner-mouth perfume to the dark flavors of blackberry, cassis, and violet. Sneaky density and depth. Finishes vibrant and very long, with suave tannins. A beauty.

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Bright, full red. Expressive nose combines redcurrant, spices, underbrush and dried flowers. Very concentrated and complex, with wild game and earth nuances to the sweet redcurrant, coffee and mocha flavors. Shows hints of darker berries and fresh flowers in the middle palate, but still not quite as high-pitched as the Suchots. Finishes with big, broad,…

This comes across like a “grumpy” Charmes-Chambertin…

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Bright medium red. Musky aromas of strawberry, raspberry and smoke, complicated by mineral and animal fur notes: very Gevrey. Tighter in the mouth than the Echezeaux, with lovely inner-mouth floral lift and precision to the berry, spice and rose petal flavors. The firmly tannic but essentially supple finish calls for five years of cellaring. The…

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Good medium red. Reduced, slightly decadent aromas of strawberry, spices, underbrush and game: this could only be Burgundy! Seriously silky, pliant and glyceral, with a lightly liqueur-like quality to the plush flavors of red fruits and spices. Quite sweet on entry, then more restrained on the back half. Finishes concentrated, spicy and long, with broad,…
