Life on the Margin: Chablis 2019/2020 (Oct 2021)

The 2019 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru has a linear nose, nicely focused and revealing saline/marine scents with aeration. The taut, fresh palate offers a fine bead of acidity, veins of sour lemon, and orange peel and strawberry flavors. Tensile from start to finish, delivering plenty of weight and harmony. Digging up a Languedoc Treasure: Mas de Daumas Gassac 1978-2022 (Jul 2024)

Ripe redcurrant, black cherry, dried herb, cedar wood and leafy nuances introduce the 2022 Rouge. Freshly cut violets add a floral layer. Refined and savory, the 2022 hits the palate with good concentration and vivid inner energy. Structured and complex, this is a serious red from the Guibert family.

Struck match aromas pair with lemon flesh, white peach, ripe pear and spring blossom. Concentrated and balanced, the 2021 concludes with a deliciously saline aftertaste on the bright finale.

2020 Barolo: Part Two (Sep 2024)

The 2019 Barolo Fossati is a potent, driving wine. Red cherry fruit, blood orange, white pepper, mint, crushed rocks and cedar lend high-toned vibrancy to this sinewy, linear Barolo. Clean mineral notes and bright acids—typical of this site—lend tons of character. This is a gorgeous Fossati.

Brunello di Montalcino 2007 and 2006 Riserva (Jul 2012)

Medium red. Cherry, plum, underbrush, licorice and herbs on the nose; hints at a liqueur-like ripeness. Very sweet and pliant, even glyceral, on entry, but strong, integrated acidity gives the middle palate a penetrating quality. Just a hint of raisiny ripeness here but the wine’s liqueur-like sweetness gives it significant early appeal and the stuffing…
