2017 Bordeaux: The Heart of the Matter (May 2018)

Black cherry, smoke, chocolate, lavender and graphite run through the 2017 Lynch-Moussas. Powerful and a touch rustic (but pleasantly so), the 2017 offers plenty of intensity and persistence. This is an especially dark, potent style of Pauillac, but there is also more than enough to hold the interest of readers for a number of years….

Bordeaux 2018: Not Back in Black (Mar 2021)

The 2018 La Réserve de Léoville-Barton is effusive and boisterous right out of the gate. The estate's second wine offers tons of immediacy, with scents of blueberry, pencil shavings, lavender and menthol open in the glass. The tannins are just a bit drying on the finish, so I would drink this sooner rather than later.

Finally: Bordeaux 2015 In Bottle (Jul 2019)

The 2015 La Tour Figeac has a pleasant red cherry, strawberry and cranberry nose, quite pure and floral in style with well integrated oak. The palate offers more black than red fruit laced with tobacco and cedar, quite focused and well defined with an edgy finish that demonstrates more nervosité than its peers. Good potential….

2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

A dark, potent wine, the 2015 La Tour Figeac is quite brooding today. Although not especially finessed, the 2015 has gained some of the midpalate fleshiness and depth it lacked as a barrel sample. The 25% Cabernet Franc adds expressive floral, earthy and savory notes to this flavorful, expressive Saint-Émilion. It would be nice to…

Northern Rhône: Where Diversity Ignites the Senses (Mar 2024)

The 2020 Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde de Guigal is showing well. Ripe black fruits race out of the glass, mingling with pencil shavings, cured meat and licorice. Medium-bodied and concentrated, the 2020 concludes with intensity on the savory finale.

Northern Rhône: Where Diversity Ignites the Senses (Mar 2024)

Showing less ripeness compared to the surrounding two vintages, the 2021 Condrieu still has plenty to offer. Offering vivid citrus and stone fruits alongside a tropical melon splash and blossom notes, it hits the palate with solid flavor concentration and lovely intensity. Round and elegant, it concludes with a bright finish.
