The Lord Giveth…Burgundy 2023 (Jan 2025)

The 2023 Saint-Aubin Village is a blend of four or five parcels. This is already quite seductive with hints of vanilla pod and almond flakes on the well-defined nose. The palate is well balanced, fresh and poised with a keen line of acidity and a malic finale of green apple and pear. The 2023 doesn't…

Vinous Table: Akoko, London, UK (Sep 2024)

The 2019 Syrah from Boekenhoutskloof was a worthy follow-up to the Tinta Barocca. It remains youthful on the nose. More red fruit tinged with wilted violet and peony, it gains fruit intensity and incense with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and an insistent grip, perhaps not quite as “caressing” as before, yet…

La Lumière Noire: 2019 Burgundy – Côte de Beaune (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chênes (Rouge), coming from tank, feels very tight and a little broody on the nose, maybe because it had just been transferred. The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of plum and redcurrant. Plump, lush and sweet; in a distinctly soft, chunky style with modest nuance. Finishes with easygoing tannins.

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Monthélie Aux Fournereaux has quite a high-toned bouquet with iodine-tinged red and blue fruit that feel quite exuberant. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, quite saturated tannins. This feels quite candied in style, maybe just a little too sweet on the finish? I suspect it will muster more composure once in bottle.

The Enigma of 2018 Barolo (Feb 2022)

The 2018 Barolo is a delicate, pretty wine with plenty of immediacy and overall appeal. Naturally, the 2018 is a small-scaled wine, but all the elements are nicely balanced. This is nicely done and also quite promising, in its peer group.
