Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a tightly wound, mineral-driven bouquet that needs time to gradually unfurl. Black rather than red fruit here. The medium-bodied palate has sappy red fruit, fine depth and good grip. A more sinewy Clos Vougeot that should stand it in good stead for long-term aging. Excellent.

Central Tuscany: Maremma, Montepulciano and Beyond (Mar 2019)

The 2016 Il Pino di Biserno is powerful, if rather somber. Dark fruit, scorched earth, graphite, leather, tobacco and torrefaction add to an impression of depth and gravitas. Readers will have to be patient with the 2016, as it needs at least a few years in bottle to shed some of its formidable tannic heft….

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru has red and black fruit, plus a touch of shucked oyster shell and Japanese nori. Impressive delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a pretty and relatively delicate Les Beaumonts. It is sapid and quite linear, maybe needing a little more grip on the finish….

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru is laced with hints of red toned fruit, cedar, cinnamon, spice and new leather. Deceptively medium in body, the 2022 is super-elegant right out of the gate. It’s a Chambertin of finesse rather than size. Blood orange, mint, rose petal spice and new leather lend aromatic nuance, all framed by…

La Lumière Noire: 2019 Burgundy – Côte de Beaune (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Côteaux Bourguignon “L’Eclos des Ebeilles” Blanc comes from four vineyards. It is a cuvée that Potel aims at restaurants and will probably become the domaine’s largest label. The pretty nose features touches of white flowers, and the palate is quite creamy in texture, revealing almond and light nutty notes on the finish. A…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

Only two people own vines in this vineyard, although Jacques Carillon labels his as Champs Canet. The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de La Jacquelotte 1er Cru has a slightly candied bouquet with orange blossom, grapefruit and touches of peach skin, quite generous whilst retaining satisfying freshness. The palate is very well-balanced with a smooth texture. It’s…
