Focus on California’s North Coast (May 2011)

(a blend of 88% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot and 4% cabernet franc): Dark ruby-red. Aromas of crushed blackberry, liquid stone, licorice pastille, violet and graphite. Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

Bright, dark red. Ineffable nose and palate combine note of flowers, anisette and Asian spices with raspberry and pungent crushed-stone minerality. Wonderfully plush and penetrating, conveying uncanny inner-mouth clarity and lift and impressive reserve to its sappy core of fruit. Finishes with a strong spine of tannins but the wine’s dark raspberry, espresso and mineral…

I have been fortunate to taste and drink the 2015 La Tâche on multiple occasions, and it has never been anything less than profound. Bright and beautifully focused with tremendous purity of fruit, the 2015 is so dynamic, so compelling. Is it ready to drink? Not for readers who enjoy fully mature Burgundies. But there…

Life Is Funny Like That: 1999 & 2015 DRC (Apr 2018)

The 2015 La Tâche Grand Cru was picked at 25.55hl/ha on 7 and 8 September. This has a fascinating bouquet. The stem addition seems a little more transparent than the other crus from the domaine. The La Tâche has darker fruit than the Richebourg mixed with black tea, bay leaf, a pinch of cracked black…

2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

Good medium-deep red. Knockout high-pitched nose shows great lift to its aromas of raspberry, rose petal and Oriental spices. Silky-sweet, supple and highly concentrated but very tightly coiled today. Saturates the entire palate without exerting any impression of weight. Wonderfully suave, plush wine with superb energy on the very long, vibrating finish.
