The 2012 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Mar 2015)

Bright medium red. Deeper-pitched on the nose than the village Gevrey, offering scents of strawberry, mocha and earth. At once plush and fresh on the palate, with flavors of strawberry, raspberry and spices nicely framed by harmonious acidity. A lovely village wine with considerable early appeal

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Impressive full medium ruby color. Quite locked up on the nose following the February bottling; hinted at currant, smoked meat and roasted nuts as it opened in the glass. Extremely powerful but a bit chunky today, conveying an impression of extraordinary solidity. One senses but does not taste the minerals and primary berry fruit. But…

A Century of Bordeaux: The Threes (Aug 2023)

The 2003 Pavie was the infamous vintage that caused a kerfuffle upon release, a kerfuffle that will not retread. It now shows a little bricking on the rim with a dark core. Chablis 2012: Energy, Power and Class (Aug 2013)

The 2011 Chablis Valmur wraps around the palate with serious depth. Layers of fruit blossom in the glass in a rich, broad-shouldered wine endowed with serious intensity. Almonds, hazelnuts, spices and floral-infused honey notes flow through to the radiant, inviting finish. This is a totally delicious wine from Droin, and easily one of the wines…

2012 and 2011 Chablis (Jul 2013)

(from vines averaging 14 years of age): Pale, bright yellow. Orange zest, spices and fresh herbs on the slightly high-toned nose. Rather suave and juicy in the mouth, with good energy to its rich flavors of white peach, spices and stone. Not as ripe or Batard-like as the 2012 version, and showing less evidence of…

2012 Red Burgundy: Against All Odds (Jan 2014)

Sweet red cherries, cinnamon, mint, licorice and crushed flowers meld together in Groffier’s 2012 Bourgogne. A silky, expressive wine, the 2012 graces the palate with lovely texture and depth. Sweet floral and spice notes linger on the finish.
