Herding Cats: Burgfest 2020 – The Reds (Oct 2024)

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a stunning bouquet with lifted raspberry coulis, wild strawberry, cassis and violet scents. Wonderful delineation. The oak is seamlessly integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant and filigree tannins, but there’s real backbone here. A mixture of red and black fruit, orange rind and iodine conveys…

Northern Rhône: 2016 and 2017 Reds (Sep 2019)

Opaque, bright-rimmed ruby. Expansive, mineral-tinged aromas of ripe red and blue fruits, incense, bacon fat, olive, mocha and pungent flowers are accented by an exotic Moroccan spice nuance. Sappy and deeply concentrated and energetic on the palate, offering vibrant boysenberry, black raspberry, olive paste, smoked meat, five-spice powder and violet pastille flavors that are underscored…

Antinori Solaia From Magnum: 1978-2016 (Sep 2020)

The 2001 Solaia (magnum) represents the peak of an era in which richness, concentration and extraction were pushed to the limit, typical of so many wines in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Super-ripe dark red fruit, raspberry jam, rose petal, licorice and copious new oak build in an unapologetically rich, heady Solaia. The 2001…

2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Deep red. Aromas of blueberry, plum, leather, tobacco and mocha. Sweet, plummy and pliant, with a creamy, fine-grained texture for the vintage. Very plush wine, richer than the 2006 and at least as long. Finishes with big but ripe tannins.

Finally: Bordeaux 2015 In Bottle (Jul 2019)

The 2015 Beaumont feels quite sophisticated on the nose with wild strawberry and subtle pressed flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip and fine tannin, plus plenty of classic tobacco-infused fruit on the finish. This is a superb wine from Beaumont. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

The 2015 Beaumont is a gorgeous, everyday wine endowed with tons of character and nuance. Tobacco, grilled herbs, licorice, menthol and scorched earth give the wine considerable aromatic and flavor nuance. The 2015 is a touch rustic, but it is also immensely pleasing. It will be especially fine at the dinner table. The blend is…
