1997, 1996 and 1995 Bordeaux (May 1998)

Very good deep red. Warm, inviting aromas of plums, hot bricks, leather and spice. Lush and expansive in the mouth, with smoke and plum flavors. Subtle flavor really expands on the finish. Tannins are quite suave. A lovely drink.

Pump Up The Volume: 2019 Burgundy – Blind (Dec 2023)

The 2019 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a linear and taut nose. It’s minerally and complex with orange blossom and lime hints. There is a palpable sense of energy, but after ten minutes, that seems to ebb a little faster than I would have liked. The palate is well-balanced with crisp acidity, tensile, and…

Napa Valley’s Extraordinary 2016 Cabernets (Dec 2018)

The 2016 Dominus is a dark, somber wine. I don’t quite see the explosive energy of the 2013 or 2010, not the seductiveness of the 2012, but the 2016 has a distinct charm that is all its own. 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon: A Dark Horse Emerges (Jan 2025)

The 2014 Opus One has arrived at its tenth birthday in style. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, blood orange, mint and white pepper give the 2014 a striking top register of aromatics to play off its mid-weight structure. The 2014 remains quite youthful and vibrant. Its construction and overall feel are decidedly on the more…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has quite a bit of reduction on the nose at the moment. Dried honey, light hazelnut notes, a touch of smoke. The palate is well balanced with a creamy-textured entry, a fine line of acidity, citrus peel, chamomile and a touch of white peach on the end. This is very…

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 2020 & The New Burgundy (Mar 2023)

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne once again gives the Montrachet a run for its money. Aromatically penetrating and vibrant, the 2020 offers up a compelling mix of lemon peel, white flower, almond, white pepper and a host of bright, saline notes. The 2020 oozes class and precision from the very first taste. It’s another wine I went…
