A Burgundy Intermezzo (Jul 2024)

The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc has a pleasant bouquet with Granny Smiths and light white peach aromas, which are very well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with fine weight, taut, fresh and quite potent for a regional white. The 2022 is satisfyingly persistent on the finish. This is white regional Burgundy from the top drawer.

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2021 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a focused, uncompromising bouquet with a strong marine influence: touches of oyster shell and a hint of orange blossom. The palate is very well-balanced with a twist of sour lemon. There’s very good depth – it’s sapid and quite bold towards the finish. This is a Bienvenue with driving…

A Burgundy Intermezzo (Jul 2024)

The 2022 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a captivating sea cave and oyster shell-scented nose that is so different from the Puligny Premier Crus. The palate is slightly reductive but in a positive way, imparting a light bitterness and tension. There’s tremendous weight on the finish, but it retains linearity and focus. This is another of…

2019 Château Montus and Bouscassé: A Premiere Glance (Apr 2024)

Polished tannins lend a gentle structure to this medium-bodied red that’s easygoing and savory. The 2019 spent the first year in barriques (30% new) followed by two years in…

Swings and Roundabouts: Chablis 2020/2021 (Sep 2022)

The 2021 Chablis Blanchots Grand Cru has the most “classic” or what you might call “old school” bouquets amongst Raveneau’s 2021s and I love it: razor-sharp, struck flint and granite scents. The palate is very taut on the entry, linear, a vertical Chablis that feels very long with a saline finish that lingers in the…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru includes 75% whole bunches, but you cannot detect a stem on the nose. This is an ebullient bouquet with exquisite black cherries, wild strawberry fruit, crushed violet, and hints of inkwell. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. There’s real backbone here and layers of mineral-rich red and blue fruit….
