Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru belts out of the glass with blackberry, raspberry and crushed stone aromas, the most vigorous of the Premier Crus at this juncture. Wonderful definition. The palate is harmonious, poised, and demonstrates more substance than the other crus with a slightly confit finish that lingers seductively. This could age…

A Burgundy Intermezzo (Jul 2024)

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru has a subtle menthol note in the background, indicative of the concentration bestowed by the growing season. There’s a hint of exoticism, yet it doesn’t overwhelm the terroir expression. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with a wonderful umami sensation and razor-sharp acidity (incredible in a warm vintage)….

A Burgundy Intermezzo (Jul 2024)

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a nicely detailed bouquet of green apples. It’s a touch spicier than the Bourgogne Blanc, with a trace of walnut coming through with aeration. The palate is nicely balanced with a keen line of acidity, sour lemon hints and, again, that spice that lingers on the aftertaste.

The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru bursts from the glass with scents of crushed limestone, lemon thyme, a touch of orange blossom and linseed. This wine shows lovely, life-affirming complexity and intensity. The palate is harmonious with a killer line of acidity. It’s incredibly pure, and there’s a peacock’s tail on the finish. The 2022 builds…

A Burgundy Intermezzo (Jul 2024)

The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc has a pleasant bouquet with Granny Smiths and light white peach aromas, which are very well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with fine weight, taut, fresh and quite potent for a regional white. The 2022 is satisfyingly persistent on the finish. This is white regional Burgundy from the top drawer.

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2021 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a focused, uncompromising bouquet with a strong marine influence: touches of oyster shell and a hint of orange blossom. The palate is very well-balanced with a twist of sour lemon. There’s very good depth – it’s sapid and quite bold towards the finish. This is a Bienvenue with driving…
