2017 Burgundy: A Modern Classic (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Pommard Clos des Arvelets 1er Cru has a slightly tertiary bouquet. There would seem to be some whole bunches here, but in fact there is none. The palate is medium-bodied, offering quite a savory, ferrous entry, a fine bead of acidity and a tang of cracked black pepper toward the finish. This has…

Bordeaux 2018: Back in Black (Apr 2019)

The 2018 Beau-Site is a rich, hearty Saint-Estèphe that should drink well with only a few years in bottle. Black cherry, gravel, cured meats, smoke and grilled herbs add character to this expressive, inviting Saint-Estèphe from the northern part of the appellation. The blend is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot.

Bordeaux 2013: Definitely Not the Vintage of the Century (May 2014)

Ruby-red. Complex aromas of blackberry, espresso, flint and violet. Expansive and sweet on the palate, with almost soft, perfumed flavors of dark berries, sweet spices and white pepper. Offers a lovely combination of sweetness and vibrancy. Finishes firm, with youthfully chewy tannins and a lingering leafy nuance.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Threes (Aug 2023)

The 2013 Lynch-Bages is one of the better Pauillacs in this vintage. With lively black fruit on the nose, there’s some essence of mineralité and tension. A cassis hint emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Touches of cola infuse the black fruit. It’s sweet on the finish with blood orange and…
