Bordeaux 2019: The Southwold Tasting (Feb 2023)

The 2019 d’Angludet has a fine bouquet, well-defined with tobacco and pencil box aromas infusing the black fruit, taut and displaying beautifully integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, composed and harmonious, maybe missing a little grip, but it sashays along with style. Delicious Margaux. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

2016 Brunello di Montalcino: Radiance Personified (Nov 2020)

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino from Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona places savory herbs, exotic spice and earth tones above ripeness of fruit. It’s decidedly dark and brooding on the nose, lifted by hints of fresh-picked mint and sage. There are depths of velvety textures in the mouth, offset by a tactile mix of tart wild berries,…

2021 Bordeaux: L’Enfant Terrible (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Pédesclaux is a difficult wine to taste. Light in body, it shows limited depth of dark red cherry fruit, mocha, new leather and licorice . This was so much better en primeur.

2+2=5: Bordeaux 2021 In Bottle (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Pédesclaux has retained its marine/estuarine scented bouquet that is well-defined and focused: blackberry, cedar and graphite scents, not amazingly complex but fresh, with no signs of greenness. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, a little softer than some of its peers—quite a “fluid” Pauillac with an easygoing, lightly spiced finish. It…

Enticingly Fallible: Bordeaux 2021 En Primeur (May 2022)

The 2021 Pédesclaux is a blend similar to the 2018 and was picked September 24 to October 5. It has a pure, oyster-shell-tinged bouquet that opens nicely with aeration, hints of brine coming through. You can almost smell the Gironde in this Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well balanced and precise….

2021 Bordeaux En Primeur: Back to Classicism (May 2022)

The 2021 Pédesclaux presents strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections to play off a core of dark red-fleshed fruit. Spice, menthol, tobacco and cedar follow, adding quite a bit of character to this flavorful, savory Pauillac.
