Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 La Tour Blanche is well endowed on the nose with scents of acacia honey, yellow plum and orange rind, just a touch of saffron emerging with time (a leitmotif of this vintage.) The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This feels spicier than its peers, finely tuned towards the…

Bordeaux 2010: The Sweet Wines (Aug 2011)

Bright, pale yellow-gold. Exotic aromas of apricot, kiwi and minerals, complicated by smoky botrytis. Very clean and focused in the mouth, with pure, penetrating orange marmalade and ripe citrus flavors lifted by minerals and saffron. Refined and elegant in its mouth feel and very long on the aftertaste. Extremely well done.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Twos (Sep 2022)

The 2012 Brane-Cantenac has a clean and fresh bouquet, more mineral-driven than its peers, vivid and bright with beautifully integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a savoury entry, quite irony in style and more linear than the aromatics suggest. There is just a touch of dryness towards the finish that makes me question whether…

Long Distance Runner: Brane-Cantenac 1924-2015 (Jan 2019)

The 2012 Brane-Cantenac was picked from September 27 to October 16. It has a straight-down-the-fairway, classic nose for this estate, featuring open tobacco and graphite aromas that display great vivacity. You would think this was a Pauillac if tasted blind. The medium-bodied palate is more saline compared to previous bottles, delivering fine tannin and a…

Bordeaux 2012: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (May 2013)

Deep red-ruby. Blackcurrant, licorice and a whiff of smoke on the nose. Fresh, expressive flavors of redcurrant, tobacco, fresh herbs and bitter chocolate are enlivened by good vinosity. Finishes with building but ripe tannins, a delicate herbal touch and a restrained sweetness.

Cellar Favorite: Domaines Delon: Recent Cellar Releases (Oct 2021)

The 2011 Nénin has a loose-knit bouquet, almost Burgundy-like in style, with brambly red fruit (raspberry and crushed strawberry) plus a touch of sous-bois. The palate is quite sharp and a little rustic, particularly if you compare it to more superior, recent vintages. Slightly bitter on the finish, this Pomerol should be drunk in the…
