Barolo and Barbaresco (Nov 2013)

Deep, bright red. Dark crushed cherry and inviting spices on the nose; less oaky than the 2009. A pure, silky midweight with red fruit flavors dominating. Finishes juicy, firm and long, with substantial ripe, slightly dry tannins and very good lift. Doesn’t have the distinction or ineffable perfume of the Cannubi, though.

Châteauneuf du Pape: The Lively 2013s and Lush 2012s (Apr 2015)

Opaque ruby. Deeply pitched dark berry liqueur, cherry pit, licorice and woodsmoke scents pick up exotic Indian spice and floral pastille qualities with air. Juicy, broad and alluringly sweet on the palate, with vibrant blackberry and bitter cherry flavors lifted and sharpened by zesty acidity. Shows excellent depth and power, finishing sweet, smoky and very…

Central And Southern Italy: A Wine Lover’s Paradise (Feb 2013)

Feudi’s flagship 2009 Patrimo is an intriguing wine. Over the last few years, Patrimo seems to have become less Merlot-like and more reflective of its origins. Bacon fat, smoke, licorice and incense burst from the glass. Rich and powerful with a huge finish that seems to last forever, the 2009 is a wine that needs…

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reds: The Flamboyant 2014s and the Structured 2013s (Apr 2016)

Bright ruby-red. Aromas of ripe raspberry and candied flowers show very good clarity and spicy lift. Supple, sweet and round on the palate, offering red berry preserve and cherry flavors and a touch of candied licorice. Appealingly spherical and seamless in texture; fine-grained tannins shape a long, floral finish.

2010 and 2009 Southern Rhone Wines (Jan 2012)

Vivid ruby. Deeply pitched aromas of red and dark berries, cherry and licorice. with slow-building spice and floral character. At once rich and lively, displaying very good clarity to its black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. Shows a seamless texture and finishes with excellent power, focus and floral-driven persistence. I underestimated this wine last year.

The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

Saturated medium ruby. Inky aromas of blackberry, bitter chocolate, iron and graphite. Dense, sappy and chewy with extract, with limestone lift energizing the solid black fruit palate. Still a bit youthfully imploded but not at all heavy. Finishes with a restrained sweetness and building tannins that saturate the sides of the tongue. Hold this for…
