2012 and 2011 Chablis (Jul 2013)

(from vines averaging 14 years of age): Pale, bright yellow. Orange zest, spices and fresh herbs on the slightly high-toned nose. Rather suave and juicy in the mouth, with good energy to its rich flavors of white peach, spices and stone. Not as ripe or Batard-like as the 2012 version, and showing less evidence of…

2012 Red Burgundy: Against All Odds (Jan 2014)

Sweet red cherries, cinnamon, mint, licorice and crushed flowers meld together in Groffier’s 2012 Bourgogne. A silky, expressive wine, the 2012 graces the palate with lovely texture and depth. Sweet floral and spice notes linger on the finish.

Pazo Restaurant (Jun 2010)

Bonneau’s 1999 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve des Celestins was utterly captivating right out of the bottle. It showed marvelous depth and richness at first, but then lost some intensity over several hours. A mélange of candied cherries, herbs and dried flowers lingered on the finish.

2001 and 2000 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2003)

Deep red. Jammy red fruits, roasted herbs and cinders on the nose. Suppler and more layered than the first 1999 sample, with more expressive flavors of smoked meat, red fruits, minerals and chocolate. Very rich, pliant wine that finishes with big but ripe chocolatey tannins and excellent length.

Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2002 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a wine that I have not tasted since it was bottled. Here it is noticeably deep in colour. It is bestowed with a fragrant bouquet of red berry fruit, tangerine, freshly tilled soil and a touch of mushroom, all very elegant and refined. Conversely, the palate is quite…

Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2002 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a very attractive bouquet with brambly red fruit mixed with bacon fat (or perhaps more like freshly sliced mortadella), hints of morels emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, the core of red fruit mixed with sea salt and black pepper towards the persistent…
