2008 and 2007 White Burgundies (Sep 2009)

(tasted in tank, after the fining) Citrus peel and an almost metallic oyster shell minerality on the nose. Then richer and sweeter in the mouth than the nose would suggest, with strong acidity contributing an impression of power. This tightly coiled wine finishes with a whiplash of citrus and mineral flavors.

2007 and 2006 White Burgundies (Sep 2008)

Hazelnut, vanilla and oak spice on the nose. Very ripe, sweet stone fruit flavors are enlivened by nicely integrated acidity. A suave, concentrated village wine with very good freshness and grip. The stone fruit flavors are joined by a note of orange on the back.

The 2008 Monthélie Les Duresses is a beguiling, inviting wine laced with dark red fruit. This beautifully balanced, vibrant red carries through nicely to the finish.

2011 and 2010 Southern Rhone Wines (Jan 2013)

Saturated ruby. Black and blue fruits on the highly perfumed, spice- and smoke-accented nose. Weighty, palate-coating dark berry compote flavors show impressive depth and energy, picking up anise and lavender nuances with air. Supple tannins give shape to a very long, spicy and sharply focused finish.

2010 and 2009 White Burgundies (Sep 2011)

(aged entirely in one-year-old barrels): Aromas of mirabelle, clove and smoky minerality. Uncompromisingly dry and quite powerful, even a bit youthfully aggressive, with peppery lift to the peach and mineral flavors. Strong wine but youthfully inscrutable today, and totally different from the rest of this 2009 collection.
