The 2018 Barolos, Part 2 (Oct 2022)

The 2018 Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose is a solid effort for the year. The 2018 is laced with dark fruit, smoke, menthol, tobacco, licorice and a host of balsamic-infused nuances that are such a signature. Naturally, the 2018 is a bit light, but its balance is impeccable.

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Bright ruby-red. Expressive, classic aromas of currant, mocha, smoke and camphor. Rich, broad and ripe but impressively young, offering flavors of dark berries, chocolate, spices and smoke enlivened by firm acidity. This coats the palate nicely on the long finish, with tannins that are riper and sweeter than those of the 2006.

Passing the Baton: Lynch-Bages 1945-2018 (Jul 2023)

The 2005 Lynch-Bages is more opulent on the nose with camphor-tinged black and red fruit, desiccated orange peel and sage. With time, it develops a lovely floral component. 2005 Bordeaux: Here and Now (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Lynch-Bages is a surprising wine. Whereas so many 2005s have begun to enter their first plateau of early maturity, the 2005 comes across as still young and in need of further cellaring! The purity of the fruit is striking. Readers who want to get the full Lynch-Bages experience will have to wait at…

(72% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 12% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot; 3.67 pH; 70 IPT; 13.4% alcohol): Deep ruby. Delicate aromas of blackcurrant, mocha and graphite are lifted by minerals and violet. Enters pure, dense and round, then shows lively, precise flavors of black fruits, dried nuts, ink and minerals. This has greater volume…

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Saturated medium ruby. Inky cassis, black raspberry, graphite and pungent minerality on the very ripe nose. Dense, rich and silky, with a brooding inky minerality and an almost liqueur-like dark fruit sweetness leavened by a savory peppery element. This very ripe, deep and concentrated wine boasts wonderful lushness without any undue weight thanks to its…
