2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Good full ruby-purple; this really stains the glass. Highly expressive aromas of blackberry, crushed strawberry, flint, cedar, pepper and herbs. Rich and bright in the mouth, with pungent minerality and a cedary note keeping the dark and red fruit flavors fresh. The long finish features lovely floral lift and substantial but ripe tannins. This strikes…

The Wines of Southern Italy (Mar 2014)

(14% alcohol): Dark ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, minerals and flowers are complicated by hints of capers and thyme on the captivating nose. Suave, sweet and fine-grained, with enticing suggestions of tobacco, dried flowers and fresh herbs. Very broad and lush yet somehow airy, this wine conveys a lovely light touch for what is usually…

Central And Southern Italy: A Wine Lover’s Paradise (Feb 2013)

The highlight among these new releases is the 2008 Nerobaronj. An exotic mélange of juicy dark cherries, freshly cut flowers, licorice and tobacco takes shape as this huge, racy wine shows off its irrepressible personality. The integrity of the fruit and the wine’s sheer balance are both marvelous to behold. Layers of fruit fill out…

Through the Other Side: Burgundy 2016 in Bottle (Oct 2019)

The 2016 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru is showing quite a lot of new oak on the nose, but there is the fruit behind to support it. The palate is medium-bodied, quite modern in style with plenty of new oak, but it is in sync with the fruit. There is a gorgeous velvety texture on…

Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

(this vineyard produced the highest crop level in 2016 at 45 hectoliters per hectare but also a lofty 13.5% potential alcohol): Bright ruby. An essence of crushed black fruits on the nose, accented by licorice and violet. A bit more relaxed in the early going than the Combe d’Orveau but without quite the density for…

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

(70% cabernet sauvignon and 30% merlot) Good ruby-red. Ripe aromas of currant, tobacco, cedar and chocolate. Supple, sweet and easygoing, with good fleshy texture but modest intensity and thrust to the dark fruit, chocolate, menthol and cedar flavors. Finishes with slightly dry tannins and a rather soft structure.
