1999, 1998 and 1997 Bordeaux (May 2000)

Medium red-ruby. Black cherry, tar and oak spice on the nose. Lush and smooth, but with less clarity and density of flavor than the ’99. Not especially complex but demonstrates plenty of personality.

1999, 1998 and 1997 Bordeaux (May 2000)

Deep ruby-red. Cool aromas of black cherry, tar and violet. Dense and sweet but juicy, with good snappy acids. I can’t think of a single California cabernet that can achieve this sort of thickness with potential alcohol below 12%, unless it Ridge Monte Bello. Slight edge of austerity. Mouthcoating finish hints at violet and mint….

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2004)

Red-ruby color. Currant, chocolate and mint aromas. Fat, chewy and nicely concentrated, with roasted red berry and cocoa powder flavors. Impressive for this bottling, but doesn’t have the structure or shape of the Valandraud.

1997, 1996 and 1995 Bordeaux (May 1998)

The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, cohesive with a straightforward, slightly soft, savory finish. Drink…

1999, 1998 and 1997 Bordeaux (May 2000)

Bright ruby. Lively aromas of cassis, blackberry, violet and spice. Rich and creamy in the mouth, with spicy dark berry flavors. Finishes with substantial but ripe tannins and excellent length. Plenty of extraction here but gracefully done.
