2005 Bordeaux: Here and Now (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Giscours captures all the natural radiance of the year in its stylish, racy personality. Sweet tannins wrap around a core of sweet red berry fruit, kirsch, rose petal, mint, spice and blood orange. Soft, curvy and sensual, Giscours is a winner in 2005. It doesn’t quite offer the grandeur of the very finest…

La Lumière Noire: 2019 Burgundy Additions (Jan 2021)

The 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru takes its time to open (in fact, I afforded it an hour in my glass before commencing my note). Black fruit, leather, damp undergrowth/moss, touches of morels develop in the glass, distinctly different from the Charmes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit mixed with orange rind and tangy…

2005 and 2004 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2007)

Dark red. Explosively aromatic nose features intense floral-accented red berry and cherry notes and a potent mocha quality. Velvety in texture and strikingly deep, with sweet kirsch and blackberry flavors lifted by a refreshing mineral tone on the back. The endless finish, featuring suave tannins, is lush and seamless.

2001 and 2000 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2003)

Liqueur-like red fruits; even riper but less peppery than the young 2001. Wonderfully fat and sweet in the mouth, but with firm mineral spine giving the wine unusual verve for the year. Still youthfully tight on the end, with compelling minerality and persistence.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2024: Dark Elegance (Oct 2025)

The 2000 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Célestins is elegance in a glass, opening with intense spicebox, forest floor, melted licorice and fleshy undertones. Superbly balanced by bright acidity and markedly less powerful compared to other vintages like the 1998 or 2005, the energetic and refined 2000 is a thrilling Réserve des Célestins from the late Henri…

Viñedo Chadwick: 21 Years of Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto (Aug 2022)

After a perfect 2018, 2019 seems to be a minor vintage. In the perspective of the last two decades, however, 2019 is almost as good as the previous. The main difference is some temperature spikes during January leading to early ripening that allowed for harvest in the middle of March to preserve the acidity. The…
