Bordeaux 2015 At Age Ten (Jun 2025)

The 2015 Pichon Baron offers a delectable mixture of black fruit, mint and violet on its precocious nose that blossoms in the glass. The palate is vibrant, concentrated, delineated and fresh from its sapid entry with immense weight on the finish. Yet this is so tensile that you barely notice the horsepower in this impressive…

2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

A dramatic, sweeping wine, the Pichon-Longueville Baron is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. The 2015 is dense, plush and totally voluptuous as it sweeps across the palate to make its presence known. Nuanced and poised, with seemingly endless layers of nuance, the 2015 is super-impressive. A melange of dark red/purplish fruit,…

Battle Royale! Bordeaux 1961, 1982, 1990 & 1995

The 1990 Lafite-Rothschild put in a great performance at this dinner. In fact, this bottle was better than one opened at the château in 2018. Stunning delineation, almost crystalline, with youthful, mineral-laden black fruit laced with truffle and allspice. Very complex. The palate is medium-bodied with finely woven tannins, perfect acidity and a real peacock’s…

Dom Pérignon in Three Acts (Nov 2017)

One of the most pleasant surprises of the evening the 1971 Dom Pérignon Œnothèque (disgorged 2006) is superb. Powerful and vibrant on the palate, with tremendous freshness, the 1971 Œno exudes class. Lemon oil, almond and wild flowers give the wine its bright flavor profile, but it is the wine’s tension, energy and balance that…

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Deep red-ruby. Aromas of blackberry, licorice, minerals, flowers and peat, with some chocolatey oak emerging with air. Juicy and silky on the palate, with lovely clarity and inner-mouth perfume to its flavors of black fruits, minerals and iris. Finishes long and firmly structured, with intriguing soil tones and lovely floral lift. Classic medium-bodied claret.

Mosel Riesling 2016 Part 1: From Extremes, Equilibrium (Jan 2018)

Scents and luscious, glossy palate presence of overripe apple and peach gain welcome counterpoint from the piquancy of seed and pit, while a greenhouse-like diversity of flowering and leafing things conveys intriguing perfume. A musky, peony-like note emerges midpalate. Liqueur-like intensity of fruit and a touch of caramel are backed, as in this year’s Bernkasteler…
