The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Good dark red. Aromas of black raspberry, tobacco, mocha and smoke. Rich, plush and full in the mouth, but with edgy acidity and a peppery note contributing definition to the raspberry and mineral flavors. Not hugely concentrated but juicy, fine-grained and firmly structured wine with excellent balance. A worthy successor to the very good 2009…

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Good bright, dark red. Sexy aromas of bitter cherry, dark chocolate, mocha, potpourri spices and flowers. Silky and supple but a bit reduced, showing a restrained sweetness today to its dark berry, licorice and floral flavors. Rich and pliant wine, but without quite the tension or perfume for 90 points.

Shows a distinctly cool, vibrant quality on the back end, finishing with firm, building, fine-grained tannins and lingering fresh red…

The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, fresh and lithe, the acidity well judged and almost gentle towards the graphite-tinged finish. Certainly this constitutes…

2018 Burgundy: Confounded Expectations (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a wonderful bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry, crushed rocks/sandstone and touches of dried blood. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, brown spices and a slight charcoal-like note. Moderate depth, quite masculine in style, a little austerity on the finish… but that is what you want from…

The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru builds on the promise that it showed in bottle. it has a sublime bouquet with blackberry and wild strawberry, ground gravel and orange rind.
