A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 Potensac has a rounded gravelly bouquet with mulberry and light cedar aromas, just a touch of stewed tea in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, fresh and vibrant, lovely definition with quite an attacking, spicy finish that leaves you wanting another sip. Excellent. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux…

Unrivalled/ Unequalled: Yquem 1921–2019 (Apr 2022)

The 1995 Yquem is deep gold in colour. According to the estate, potential alcohol levels shot up from 16° at the beginning of harvest to 30° within two weeks. The bouquet bursts from the glass, as before, quite Barsac-like in style with white peach, tangerine, acacia and saffron, a touch of candle wax with time….

Vertical Tasting of Chateau du Tertre (Jan 2012)

(50% cabernet sauvignon, 25% cabernet franc, 20% merlot and 5% petit verdot): Amber-tinged red. Captivating nose offers tertiary aromas of faded rose, orange peel and spicecake, along with delicate nuances of strawberry, raspberry and vanilla. Fresh and juicy on entry, showing lovely, delicate red berry and floral flavors nicely extended on the back by lively…

1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Medium full red. Dusty aromas of cooked plum, chocolate and leather, with a slightly raisiny ripeness. Began smooth if a bit featureless but showed more sweetness and fullness as it opened in the glass. Offers very good flavor intensity but, like several of these ’82s from the Margaux appellation, is marred by a slight green…

1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Medium red. Spicy red berries, eucalyptus and camphor on the nose, plus a whiff of old barrel. Then supple and fat, with modest nuance but more ripeness and sweetness than the nose suggests. Finishes with nicely ripe tannins and good persistence.

1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Medium red. At once slightly stewy and green on the nose, with a whiff of coffee grounds. Shows decent sweetness in the mouth along with a hard edge. Lacks real density. Some chocolatey suggestions of incipient oxidation.
